Eubank Jr. Vs. Benn Rematch – How Does It Play Out?

The Chris Eubank Jr. vs. Conor Benn rematch takes place on November 15, as we look at how the fight could play out. 

Eubank Jr. won the first fight via a unanimous decision, as Benn experienced his first loss. Heading into the first fight, there were many talking points over the weight. Eubank had to make 160, something he failed to do resulting in a fine. He also had to conform to a ten-pound rehydration clause, while Benn moved up to 160 from 154 when he is a 147 fighter. Despite the weight issues, Eubank came through, although he was taken to the hospital as a precaution due to dehydration. The weight stipulations will apply again, as we look at how the fight could play out.

The Approach

Eubank’s best path to victory is to use his size to wear down Benn. In their first fight, Eubank Jr. used a powerful jab and constant forward pressure to lean on Benn, draining his energy in the later rounds. Eubank’s goal will be to replicate this approach. If he can manage the weight cut more effectively this time, he could be even more dominant in the championship rounds.

For Conor Benn, the tactical keys to victory are speed and explosive power. As a natural welterweight, he is likely to be the faster of the two fighters. His strategy will be to get in and out quickly, landing fast combinations and avoiding Eubank’s constant pressure. Benn will need to make every punch count, as his power at 160 pounds is not at the same level as Eubank’s. The challenge for Benn will be to sustain his explosive output for a full 12 rounds without getting tired from carrying the extra weight. In the first fight, Benn had some early success, but he faded in the later rounds, allowing Eubank to take control.
