Fans React After Ben Askren Gets Placed On Lung Transplant Waiting List

Ben Askren has now been placed on a lung transplant list as the ex-UFC fighter continues his battle with pneumonia.

Askren left a massive mark on the sport of MMA, having won welterweight titles in Bellator and ONE Championship. While his UFC career was not the best, having suffered constructive losses after his sole Robbie Lawler win, his illness came at a time when he had his venture into the wrestling promotion Real American Freestyle. 

His wife, Amy Askren, revealed that he had been placed on a ventilator. There was also the use of an ECMO machine. The machine takes over the functions of the heart and lungs, allowing them to take a rest. Amy has confirmed that Ben needs assistance with his breathing while he is making efforts to communicate. Askren could very well end up requiring a lung transplant, as he is now on the list.

"While he is having more periods of awareness, he’s not able to look at his phone yet and respond to messages. I am hoping he can get there in the next week or two! Also hoping we will get to a place soon where he can talk while on a trach. Yesterday he kept mouthing something for a while and we finally figured out he was saying coffee!
