Musk Endorses McGregor For President Of Ireland

Elon Musk has endorsed Conor McGregor for President of Ireland. 

The endorsement comes as McGregor’s campaign is facing a significant setback. McGregor, 37, is not yet eligible to be on the ballot, and a September 24 deadline is fast approaching. According to Ireland’s election laws, a presidential candidate must be nominated by at least 20 members of parliament or at least four local authorities.

"This system, while intended to ensure a degree of political influence among candidates, inadvertently restricts the direct voice of the Irish electorate. In light of this, I propose a petition advocating for a modification of the nomination process to allow my name be included on the ballot. I contend that the citizens of Ireland, both at home and abroad, should have the unhindered right to determine the candidates who appear on the presidential ballot.

"Therefore, I implore you to join me in this endeavor by signing this petition. Your support will be instrumental in championing a more inclusive and democratic electoral process, thereby empowering the people of Ireland to shape their own future," McGregor said

The Reality

McGregor has yet to secure the required nominations. Musk publicly stated that "No one will fight harder for the people of Ireland than Conor McGregor!" McGregor also shared a screenshot of him Facetiming Musk, saying  ‘This is Superman level, folks.’

Musk’s endorsement is a win for McGregor’s campaign. His massive following on social media has given McGregor a global platform. Musk’s support, which he has been vocal about for months, helps McGregor’s anti-immigration and populist message reach an audience far beyond Ireland’s borders.

The endorsement, however, does more to expose the flaws in McGregor’s campaign than it does to help it. Ireland’s election laws are stringent, requiring a candidate to be nominated by at least 20 members of parliament or four local authorities. His reliance on a celebrity endorsement from a tech billionaire, rather than on grassroots political support, highlights his campaign’s fundamental weakness. McGregor has plenty of obstacles to overcome if he wishes to enter political office.
