Ronda Rousey’s biopic will air on Netflix, as Euphoria director Augustine Frizzell will direct the project.

Rousey is one of the UFC’s most recognized stars. She became known for boosting the profile of women’s MMA, as she delivered in the Octagon. Rousey would go on to become the UFC Bantamweight Champion. She defended the belt on six occasions before her form began to decline. Her last two UFC appearances resulted in knockout defeats to Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes, respectively.

Those defeats signalled her departure from the UFC, as she later joined WWE. A film career also followed, with Rousey making appearances in Entourage and Furious 7. The biopic will delve into Rousey’s autobiographies: My Fight, Your Fight and Our Fight. The autobiographies outlined her struggles with concussions, which Rousey explained impacted her career. While Rousey was linked with a return at UFC 300, she ruled out making a return to professional fighting. Her focus is on motherhood, while the Netflix project will offer fans a new insight into her life outside the Octagon.

Rousey’s Struggles

"I got to a point where I couldn’t take a jab without getting dazed, without getting concussion symptoms. It just got to a point where it wasn’t safe for me to fight anymore. I just couldn’t continue to fight at that higher level. I started dealing with it at six-years old. I started getting concussions much earlier on in swimming. Two kids doing a backstroke in the other direction crack heads or hit the wall doing the backstroke.

"I started doing judo at a young age and kept getting concussions regularly and multiple times a year and not being allowed to speak up or say anything about it. As a fighter, you’re not supposed to show any weakness or talk about things like that or the inevitable neurological decline that comes with taking headshots. A lot of people talk about it as if it’s making excuses or weakness," Rousey said
