Sara Bailey vs. Evelin Nazarena Bermudez – How Does It Play Out?
Sara Bailey vs. Evelin Nazarena Bermudez face off this weekend in a junior flyweight clash, as we look at how the fight could play out.
The unification sees the WBA World Champion Bailey looking to add the IBF/WBO belt held by Evelin Nazarena Bermudez. Baile brings an undefeated record of 6-0 into the ring. This bout marks her first opportunity to unify world titles. She earned her WBA belt with a convincing unanimous decision win over Guadalupe Bautista in April 2024, a victory that made her the fastest Canadian professional boxer to win a world championship.
Since then, she has successfully defended the title twice, most recently against Cristina Navarro in March 2025. In the opposite corner Evelin Nazarena Bermudez has an impressive record of 21-1-1. Bermudez first captured the IBF title in 2018 when she defeated Guadalupe Bautista. She unified the division with the WBO belt on March 26, 2022. She lost both titles to Yokasta Valle, but won them back by beating Tania Enriquez.
Pre-Fight
"I’m trying to make history. In the long run, it’s going to be worth it. I’m trying to make my name as big as possible. I’m not here to box forever. Everyone keeps asking when I’m going to fight in the States, but why would I? I have so much control here. I don’t want to give up control," Bailey said
Bailey’s game plan will likely be centered on forward-moving pressure. Bailey has shown she can overwhelm opponents with a relentless, high-volume attack. She will likely look to start the fight quickly, using her athleticism to dictate a high pace and get in close to land combinations to both the head and body. Her goal will be to test Bermudez’s durability and stamina.
Bermudez has faced a variety of styles throughout her career and has proven she can make in-fight adjustments. Her best strategy will be to use her ring IQ to counter Bailey’s relentless aggression. She will likely use her jab and footwork to control the distance, frustrating the younger fighter and forcing her to make mistakes.
