UFC 319 – Chase Hooper vs Alexander Hernandez: Preview & Betting Tips
We have an intriguing matchup in the lightweight division at UFC 319 as Chase Hooper takes Alexander Hernandez, with both men on a win streak.
Hooper (16-3-1) has won five-straight fights after defeating UFC veteran Jim Miller earlier this year. However, no disrespect to Miller, but Hooper is facing a far more live opponent on Saturday night.
Hernandez (16-8) has been up and down over the last five years, but now his form is back on track after decision wins over Austin Hubbard and Kurt Holobaugh. And another victory here could see him reignite his UFC career at 155-pounds.

Chase Hooper vs Alexander Hernandez: Analysis
Hooper has undergone a quiet but meaningful transformation over the past couple of years. Once seen as a pure grappler with nonexistent striking, Hooper has been steadily improving in this area. His stand-up remains serviceable rather than dangerous, but his ability to set up entries to the ground is noticeably sharper because of his hands as well.
On the mat, Hooper is a slick and dangerous submission threat. He is the kind of fighter who can capitalise on even the smallest of mistakes and make you pay. If he can consistently force scrambles or drag Hernandez into extended grappling exchanges, he’s in his element.
On the flip side, Hernandez is one of those fighters who’s hard to pin down in betting terms. On paper, he’s very good: well-rounded, explosive, athletic, and possessing both power and speed. He’s a solid wrestler with sharp bursts of striking ability.
But, too often, he struggles to put it all together in the same fight. He’s undersized for the lightweight division, but compensates with quickness and a strong wrestling base. In his most recent bout, a decision win over Kurt Holobaugh, Hernandez leaned heavily on his wrestling after getting tagged repeatedly on the feet.
His gas tank can also be a concern; while he’s powerful, he sometimes empties the tank too quickly instead of pacing himself.
Hooper vs Hernandez: Prediction & Betting Tips
This fight could turn into a grapple-heavy affair. Hernandez will likely look to mix in wrestling to control positions and avoid Hooper’s dangerous submission game. Hooper, on the other hand, will try to create chaos on the mat, forcing Hernandez to defend rather than impose.
On the feet, Hernandez’s speed and explosiveness give him a clear edge, but Hooper’s durability and improving striking means he’s no longer a sitting duck while standing.
I think the odds should be a lot more 50/50 than what they’re currently sitting at. On that note, I’m going to side with the underdog, Hernandez. I think he’s got more skills on the feet, and his takedown defence could buy him time to do damage to Hooper in the stand up.
My pick is Alexander Hernandez moneyline at odds of 3.72 (v bet).
